Syracuse, NY – A woman who accused Mike Tyson To violate it in a limousine in 1991, it is dropping its demand against the former heavyweight boxing champion, according to a letter presented in the United States District Court.
Tyson’s lawyer Daniel Rubin said that the accuser’s lawyer “has informed me that the plaintiff is withdrawing his complaint and voluntarily discontinuing” the case.
USA Today reported the letter of March 7 to Judge Mitchell Katz.
Women’s lawyers said Tuesday in a statement that the case had to be dismissed for procedural reasons.
“We are extremely disappointed that the court has not allowed us to amend the allegations in the case. It is a shame that the case of our client has to be dismissed for procedural reasons, ”said the statement provided by lawyer Darren Seilback. “We support our client’s account on events and support it 100%.”
In her demand in January 2023, the woman said that Tyson, the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, raped her after she met him in an Albany nightclub. She said she has suffered in the years since “physical, psychological and emotional injuries.”
Tyson denied the accusations.
He was convicted of rape in a separate case of 1992 and turned three years in prison.
New York’s demand was presented under the state Adult survivors lawthat gave the victims of sexual aggression a one year window to sue for assaults that occurred years ago or even decades.
Rubin did not respond to a request sent by email to obtain additional information.
