Quito, Ecuador – Ecuadorian authorities warned on Saturday that the Andean country is on “maximum alert” after intelligence received an alleged attempt to President Daniel Noboa ‘ S life.
Ecuador’ S Ministry of Government, which does not provide evidence of his statements, wrote in a publication in the social network X that was warned “about the planning of murder, terrorist attacks and … violent protests.”
The ministry said he had taken security measures to neutralize the alleged threats.
The warning comes days later Novoa won re -electiondefeating the candidate for the leftist opposition Luisa González for a margin of more than one million votes, according to the electoral authorities.
Nemaa has gained popularity for its repression against organized crime at a time when violence has shot, which led the president to declare that Ecuador is in an “internal armed conflict.”
The Neboa government said that the people behind the recent threat were “criminal structures” and “political sectors defeated at the polls.” Neboa alluded to an alleged military intelligence report that circulated on social networks that said that after Sunday’s elections, “the transfer of hired murderers from Mexico and other countries to Ecuador has begun.”
Associated Press consulted the military institution about the veracity of the report, to which its press office replied that an official statement would be issued in the next few hours.
But the lack of evidence of the Government of Ecuador promoted the criticisms of former candidate González, who has repeatedly affirmed that the result of the elections was falsified. On Saturday, he wrote in X that the murder statements were simply the “despair of the government for silencing us” and added that “more persecution is approaching.”
