Istanbul – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 has shaken Istanbul, says the Emergency Management Agency of Türkiye. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 and a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States geological service. His epicenter was about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Istanbul in Marmara’s sea.
He felt in several neighboring regions, reports said.
Türkiye crosses two main failures and earthquakes are frequent.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on February 6, 2023, and a second powerful tremor that arrived hours later, destroyed or damaged hundreds of thousands of buildings in 11 Turkish provinces of the south and southeast, leaving more than 53,000 dead people.
