THE ROCK REM He is presenting a special response from his first single, “Radio Free Europe”, to benefit, wait for it, Radio Free Europe.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is among the media services financed by the United States government that offer news in foreign markets. The administration of President Donald Trump, claiming that they are a waste and promote a liberal point of view, is trying to drown their funds.
A federal judge this week ordered the republican administration Restore $ 12 million from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that was assigned by Congress. The lawyers of the service, which has been operating for 75 years, said it would be forced to close in June without money.
In the first line of his song “Radio Free Europe”, Rem’s Michael Stipe sings: “Decide for yourself if the radio is going to stay.”
“Whether music or a free press: censorship anywhere is a threat to truth everywhere,” Stipe said Friday. “On World Press Freedom Day, I am sending thanks to the brave journalists on Radio Free Europe.”
Stephen Capus, president of RFE/RL, said that Rem has always represented a celebration of freedom for him. He said that inspiring and defending the public to the public that does not always experience that it is the objective of the journalists of his organization.
Released in a small independent seal, the single “Radio Free Europe” was the first that the world had heard from the Athens headquarters, Georgia, whose career finally took him The Rock and Roll Fame Hall. The band called it in 2011.
Later, the song was included in the National Recording Registry of the Congress Library to establish the independent rock release pattern at that time.
The EP of five songs will include the original recording of the song and a remix made this year by the collaborator of the band Jacknife Lee. It will also contain three other songs made at the same time: side B of the single, “sitting still”; the instruments “Wh. Tornado”; and a remix of “Radio Free Dub” previously unpublished.
The producer of the original recording session, Mitch Easter, is supervising the relief of this year. It is available for the transmission on Friday, and you can buy a special vinyl pressureer in independent disc stores and the RemA’s orders store. The income of all vinyl sales go to RFE/RL.
