The trade resumes as Pakistan and Afghanistan reopen the crossing of the border with Key Torkham after almost a month

Peshawar, Pakistan – The trade between Pakistan and the Afghanistan neighbor resumed Wednesday at a key border post after a dispute that became exchanges of shooting, officials and local elders.

The border crossing of the northwest of Torkham, only one of the two main commercial routes among the neighbors, had been closed for almost a month due to the dispute over the construction of a border post of Afghanistan.

The Torkham Crossing is located in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, where Pakistani Taliban militants frequently addresses security forces. It has been closed several times in recent years, mainly after clashes between security forces for reasons that include Pakistan repairs of the border fence.

Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, director of the Chamber of Commerce and Joint Industry of Pakistan-Fanganistan, welcomed the bilateral trade resumption.

He said he expected the movement of people to resume this week.

Ghulam Ali, another Pakistani businessman, said that the closure of Torkham’s border had caused losses of millions of dollars for importers and exporters as some articles perished. He thanked local tribal elders for facilitating reopening.
