London – The Scottish painter Jack Vettrian, known for his works that represent elegant men and women on dream beaches, has been found dead in his department in France, said his publicist on Monday. He was 73 years old.
The British media reported that there were no suspicious circumstances around their death on Saturday.
Vettrian, born Jack Hoggan in Figfe, Scotland, on November 17, 1951, was a self -taught artist who created some of the most recognizable contemporary paintings in the world.
His 1992 painting “The Singing Butler”, with a couple with a night dress dancing on a beach swept by the storm when their butler and maid offered umbrella, became a best -selling image in Great Britain.
In 2005, elusive street artist Banksy based a satirical painting entitled “Crude oil (Vetrian)” In “The Singing Butler”, adding an oil coating that sank and two figures that carry a barrel of toxic waste to the composition to send an environmental message.
Vettrian left school at age 15 to become a mining engineer, but it was painted after a girlfriend gave him a watercolor box for his 21st birthday. His progress arrived in 1998 when he presented two paintings to the annual show of the Royal Scottish Academy. Both sold the first day.
Although some art critics ruled out their work, enjoyed commercial success and made exhibitions in London, Hong Kong, New York and other places. The actor Jack Nicholson and the lyricist Tim Rice were among those who acquired the work of Vettrian.
“The death of Jack Vettrian marks the end of an era for contemporary Scottish art,” said his publicist in a statement. “His evocative and timeless works will continue to captivate and inspire future generations.”
