Suspicious arrested after numerous trees were cut with a chainsaw in Los Angeles

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles police say they arrested a man who used a chainsaw to cut large trees in at least three neighborhoods in the city.

Indignant residents began to inform destruction on Friday afternoon. The photos published online showed multiple mature trees on the sidewalks of the center, and at least one fell into a street.

The LAPD said that “numerous” trees were carved in properties owned by the city in at least four blocks, and detectives were investigating other possible places. On Tuesday, they released a photo of a suspect on a bicycle with dark clothes and wearing two bags. An alert of the community described him as a man in his 40s.

Hours later, the police announced an arrest, saying that a 45 -year -old man had been arrested under suspicion of vandalism of serious crime and that “detectives located evidence that link him to crimes.” There was no information about a possible reason.

A message was sent to the Los Angeles public defender’s office asking if one of his lawyers represented the man and could speak in his name.

Some of the trees had wide trunks. A number seemed to be ficus trees.

In a statement, the office of Mayor Karen Bass described the carnage “truly beyond understanding.”

“The city’s public works teams are evaluating the damage and we will make plans to quickly replace these damaged trees,” said the statement.
