Berlin – A vehicle crashed into a group of pedestrians in the German city of the southwest Stuttgart on Thursday, hurting several people, some of them seriously, authorities said. The driver was arrested on the scene.
While the Stuttgart Fire Department referred to the event as an “accident” in a publication on the social media platform X, the police said it was too early to determine the cause.
The injuries occurred at a subway stop over the ground in downtown Stuttgart, police said. The driver who was at the wheel of the Dark Mercedes vehicle was arrested, a police spokesman told reporters, according to the DPA news agency.
An investigation was being carried out, and the area cordoned off when emergency responders, police and forensic specialists examined the scene. The witnesses were interviewed and the Metro service was suspended through the area.
The photos of the scene showed plastic gloves, blankets and bags scattered on the floor near the SUV.
