More than 2,000 people have been ordered to evacuate rural areas north of the capital of Argentina after several days of strong flooded rains, farmland and whole neighborhoods
Buenos Aires, Argentina – More than 2,000 people were ordered to evacuate rural areas north of the capital of Argentina after several days of heavy rains flooded with roads, farmland and whole neighborhoods.
A bus with 44 passengers was stranded during the night for more than 10 hours on one of the roads that connects Buenos Aires with the interior.
Between 8 and 15 inches (300 and 400 mm) of rain has fallen in the last 72 hours when the average monthly rainfall is approximately 1.7 inches, authorities said. A more humid climate is expected followed by a strong wind and the authorities urge residents, especially at 275,000 near the city of Zarate along the Parana River, to remain inside.
The authorities compared the storm with one in March that killed at least 16 people.
