Boston – Fans of the very popular video game series Grand Theft Auto I will have to wait a little longer to play the latest version.
In a publication about X Friday, Rockstar Games said he delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI until May 26, 2026. He apologized for the delay of a game, whose launch has been talked about for several years. He did not provide any details about why the launch date has been delayed from this year’s fall.
“With each game we have launched, the goal has been to try to overcome their expectations and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” the company said in a statement. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to meet at the level of quality that you expect and deserve.”
Take-Two Interactive actions, the Rockstar parent company, fell on Friday by almost 7%.
Strauss Zelnick, president and CEO of Takewo Interactive Software, remained in Rockstar in a statement and said it supports the company that takes additional time to make its creative vision. He said he is still waiting for an “innovative and successful entertainment experience that exceeds the expectations of the audience.”
“While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, we are still firm in our commitment to excellence,” Zelnick said in a statement. “As we continue to launch our phenomenal pipe, we hope to offer a period of growth of several years in our business and an improved value for our shareholders.”
The game fans reacted to the delay with disappointment, but also a shoulder shrink, since it was suggested that the game will be released in 2024 and then this year.
In a Reddit discussion forum dedicated to the game, several fans noticed that they had seen this before and that they would not be surprised if the launch was delayed again. Others took a more optimistic tone, saying that an exact launch date means that it will really happen this time.

It is not clear if the delay means, or all, of these details will continue to be part of Grand Theft Auto VI.
