Chicago – Cooper Flagg is beginning to settle in its new reality.
The former Duke star has been considered the alleged number 1 selection in the NBA draft next month for some time and now knows that the selection is in the hands of the Dallas Mavericks, winners of the draft lottery earlier earlier this week.
It is a rare Texas two Steps of Selections No. 1 for Dallas. The Dallas Wings had the number 1 team in the WNBA draft last month and took the UConn Bueckers Paige Bueckers, and now the Mavericks will continue as headlines of a selection No. 1.
This city, no. The double of 1 picks has happened only once before: 2003, when Cleveland’s rockers chose Latoya Thomas and the Cleveland Cavaliers recruited LeBron James two months later.
In Dallas, Flagg could join a list with former Duke Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II players, and be part of a new chapter for the Mavericks, which saw their base of fans shaken in February for the decision to change Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Flagg has gone through the rigors of the Draft combination this week, obtaining height, weight, vertical jump and various sizes, along with hitting the court for some shooting, agility and speed exercises.
He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists as he took Duke to the Final Four in his single university season. Fired 48% from the field, 39% from the range of 3 points, 84% from the foul line and was the national player of the year of Associated Press.
