Evacuated from the Swiss village due to the threat of landslide

Geneva – The Swiss authorities evacuated about 100 people from their homes after a landslide threatened with their alpine town of Blatten in the Lötschental Valley.

The evacuation of Saturday night was calm and orderly, said local spokesman Matthias Ebener, Swiss Newssite 20 Minuten.

“Everyone could find private accommodation with family or friends, or in other hotels. The affected tourists were transferred to nearby hotels,” he said.

It was not clear immediately when residents could return to their homes, but probably not before Tuesday.

“There is a real risk of rock falls,” Ebener said, referring to the nearby Kleine Nesthorn mountain and birch glacier.

Several roads and hiking roads also closed temporarily.

Last year, Residents of the people of Brienz I also had to pack their belongings and leave due to the threat of a possible rock sliding from an alpine hillside.
