EU establishes how Apple must open its technology to competitors under the digital bloc rules

London – The European Union described on Wednesday the steps that Apple must follow to open its operating systems for iPhone and iPad to work better with competing technologies.

It is the first time that it moves to force a technology company to comply with the Block Digital Rules Book, known as the Digital Markets Law.

The Executive Commission of the 27 Nations block had opened two “specification procedures” last year to establish the steps that Apple needed to meet the scanning rules book, also known as DMA, which entered into force last year.

In its decision, the Commission detailed the measures that the iPhone manufacturer must take so that smart watches and other devices have better access to the Apple iOS operating system. It also presented a second set of measures aimed at improving the transparency and effectiveness of the process so that software developers request access to iPhone functions.

The commission also said on Wednesday that Google was not doing enough to meet DMA. Despite making changes, Google was giving preference to its own services in the search results, he said. Google also does not allow application developers to inform users of cheaper options outside their Google Play Store application, said the commission in preliminary findings.
