Neskowin, ore. The Oceanic and Atmospheric National Administration is looking for the person who stabbed a baby seal several times on a beach in Oregon.
The seal survived March attack in a cove in the small city of Neskowin, which is located along the Pacific Ocean, NOAA said on Monday. The Administration’s marine team was able to help animals be relocated after monitoring and evaluating it.
The Office of Application of the Agency’s Law, which is investigating the attack, was looking for a “person of interest” detected by a witness. The officials were also looking for the owner of a vehicle seen in a parking lot near La Cala behind a condominium building that can be connected to Sunday night attack, according to NOAA.
The officials are asking anyone with information about the person of interest, owner of the vehicle or attack that calls the NOAA direct line.
In spring and summer, the youth elephant seals will often crawl to the Oregon beaches to spend weeks spilling their hair and skin, according to the Institute of Marine Mammals of the State University of Oregon. Adult elephant seals are rarely seen in the state.
The Federal Law on Marine Mammal Protection prohibits harassing, damaging, killing or feeding the seals of wild elephants and other marine mammals. The offenders can face criminal penalties of up to $ 100,000 in fines and up to 1 year in jail.
