Among the list of nations beaten with tariffs in the Trump plan are several uninhabited islands with just permanent residents.
For example, the territory of the British Indian Ocean was beaten with a 10%rate, but the only inhabitants of the United Kingdom territory are military personnel and US contractors parked in a joint defense center.
Norfolk Island, an Australian territory, received a rate of 29%, compared to 10% for Australia. There is very little trade with the island, which has a population of only 2,000.
