A student was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing outside his high school in southern California, authorities said.

The students were attacked in front of Santa Ana’s high school around 3:25 pm on Wednesday, shortly after the dismissal, according to school officials and police officers in Santa Ana, which is about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

When the victims were taken to the hospitals, one was in critical condition and two were in a stable state, police said. The student in a critical condition died later, police said.

The attack seemed to be related to gangs, journalists told the Santa Ana police spokeswoman, Natalie García, journalists.

The police are looking for the two unidentified suspects, Garcia said. It is not clear if the suspects attend the High School of Santa Ana or another school, he said.

“Our thoughts are with the student of the student who died, and with all those affected by this act of meaningless violence,” said the Unified School of Santa Ana in a statement.

“As a precaution, there will be a greater presence of the Santa Ana School Police in Santa Ana HS on Thursday,” added the district.
